Steph Judkins is a sophomore at Cabrini and is the outside hitter for the women’s volleyball team. She was honored as the Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week.
For the season, Judkins has 43 set points, 184 kills, 122 digs and over 201 points. This past week however; was her best week of the season totaling three double doubles, 95 kills, 54 digs while hitting an impressive .339.
What inspired her to play the game?
Judkins has been playing volleyball since she was five years old. She plays because of her sister.
“She was always playing volleyball so I was around it and started to go to camps when I was five,” Judkins said.
“It’s about the team and team spirit, and having those leaders on the team,” Judkins said. “Like Ashley Shannon and I are captains and I feel like we are really good leaders on the court because, we keep up the energy when we are down and we get our team pumped up when they need a spark.”
Being a leader on a team, takes a lot of responsibility and hard work which Judkins exemplifies day in and day out. Freshman, Amelia Ballard, describes Judkins as a “good team leader.”
“She picks up the team when we are down. I know when I get frantic on the court, she is definitely someone I look up to calm myself down,” Ballard said
What is an Outside Hitter?
An outside hitter is the player that spikes and blocks the volleyball on the front left side of the court. This position is usually for the go to player on offense. Teams need a good outside hitter in order to score points and to rejected shots by the opposing team. Judkins, has been the outside hitter for Cabrini for two years now.
