The middle of the spring semester is passing quite fast, which means it is time for seniors to start preparing for graduation and to start their careers, possibly internships. Cabrini hosted an event for seniors that occurs in March called Senior Interview Week.
To be a part of Senior Interview Week, seniors fill out an application and have their resumes submitted to the Center of Career and Professional Development a couple of weeks before the event.
This year, the event occurred for three days during the week Monday, March 14. On the first day, business recruits from Enterprise Holdings were there to speak and interview seniors. On the second day, Freedom Mortgage recruiters were there interviewing potential employers and on the last day Softmart recruiters were there interviewing as well. This whole process can really give seniors the opportunity to know about life after college and how to work hard towards their careers that they want to pursue.
The main purpose of Senior Interview week is to give seniors the opportunity to interview with the businesses Cabrini’s Center for Career and Professional Development’s gathered to attend the event.
“The goal of senior interview week is to assist Cabrini students and alumni with successful careers among graduation,” Keyia Kersey, assistant director for employer relations of the CCPD, said.
With the help of senior interview week, students experience interview processes for potential career positions. Seniors get to interview with big companies like Enterprise Holdings, Freedom Mortgage, and Softmart. With this experience, it is less nerve wracking for Cabrini seniors to go into an interview after graduation when they already know and experienced some of the process.
In some cases it is pretty hard for Cabrini seniors to get a job after graduating, but they are still able to keep trying.
“I haven’t been successful but I’ve applied to non profit positions, and also to English as a Second Language (ESL) in Spain,” senior Spanish major, Caroline McCarthy said.
Any student in any major can get involved with senior interview week. Some majors would include communications and education, which are two majors that a lot of students at Cabrini are a part of.
Graduating from college can be an exciting yet hard time.
“It’s a really exciting event but it’s also very surreal,” senior double major Abby Pressimone, said.
“Right now I’m enjoying the time I have at Cabrini. I don’t know what the future will hold and I’m sure it is not going to be easy but I am looking forward to a new adventure.”
It is hard to get a job especially in today’s world but with the help of senior interview week, students can feel one step closer to a salaried position.
