Winning the CSAC championship is something to expect now from the Cabrini women’s basketball team. For the fourth consecutive year the Cavaliers have been crowned champions of the Colonial State Athletic Conference.
The Cavaliers defeated Neumann University on Saturday night at the Nerney Field House in a game that was neck and neck until the Cavaliers pulled away in the final minutes for a double-digit victory.
Senior guard Meghan Martin led the way once again for the Cavs with 31 points, seven rebounds, four steals and one assist. She was honored with the MVP award for the game. Despite the dominant performance from Martin, the Cavaliers received contributions from a multitude of players.
Fellow seniors Kristine Startare and Mo O’Connell combined for 19 points, 15 rebounds and four assists.
Junior forward Renee Oliver did a little bit of everything for her team. Oliver shot 4-6 from the field with eight points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals. Sophomore forward Sabrini Hackendorn played big minutes (20) off the bench and was able to add eight points and seven rebounds to the box score.
Senior forward JoHanna Metzger had quite the performance for the Knights down low. Metzger finished the game with a double-double, 19 points and 15 rebounds. Junior guard AAliya Hayes neared a double-double herself. Hayes finished the contest with 18 points and eight rebounds.
The Cabrini seniors have left quite the mark on their careers. Meghan Martin, Kristine Startare, Mo O’Connell and Dana Peterson will never know what it is like to not win a CSAC title.
The Cavaliers will now await to find out who they will be facing in the NCAA tournament.
