The the Lady Cavs’ volleyball team extended their 37 game win streak with a 3-0 win against the Notre Dame of Maryland University Gators.
The Gators started the match out strong with the first ace of the game.
Christine Ingargiola, junior middle hitter, was able to tie up the game, 1-1, with her first kill of the night, assisted by Cassidy Koenig, senior setter. Koenig then got the Cavs’ first ace, pulling ahead of the Gators 6-5.
Another kill was made by Chelsea Jones, sophomore middle hitter, with an assist by Koenig, tying up the score to 7-7. Jen Grenauer, senior opposite, was able to help the Lady Cavs pull ahead 8-7 with a kill, assisted by Koenig.
Anne- Marie Jones, sophomore outside hitter, then made her first kill of the night, assisted by Koenig. Kelly Guarino, junior outside hitter, with an assist by Koenig, makes a kill helping improve the score 18-13 for the Cav’s.
Nicole Sokolovich, sophomore outside hitter, advances the team’s lead to 21-13 with a kill. Ingargiola, with an assist from Koenig, earned the match point with a kill to end the first of three games with a score of 25-16.
Jones started out the second game with a service ace. Grenauer, Anne Marie Jones, Ingargiola and Sokolovich all made kills to pull the Lady Cavs’ ahead 6-2.
Emily Shannon, freshman defensive specialist, proceeded to serve an ace, earning the team another point, leading Guarino to later ace a serve with a 9-4 lead.
Anne Marie Jones and Chelsea Jones both doubled blocked the Gators to help the team advance 17-8. The final score of the second game 25-15 with a kill by Sokolovich and an assist by Koenig.
Grenauer, with help from Koenig, welcomed game three right away with a kill.
The Lady Cavs and the Gators were both consistent in the last game, staying within close scores. Julianna Fabricius, freshman middle hitter, put the Cavs up 15-14. Grenauer scored the last kill of the night with help from Koenig.
The Lady Cavs won the third game, 25-19 from a bad set by the Gators.
Grenauer and Sokolovich both walked away from todays match with 10 kills each, Chelsea Jones, eight kills. Sokolovich also had one ace. Koenig and Guarino both earned the team three aces. Koenig helped with 38 assists of the night as well as seven digs. Guarino recorded 20 digs of the night.
With the number one seed in the CSAC championship tournament, the Lady Cavs earned a bye into the semifinal round, which will take place on Thursday, Nov. 5. A time has yet to be determined.
