Arasapha Farms Haunted Hayride and Bates Motel is located right off Route 352 in Glenn Mills, Pa. During the Halloween season, the owners of the farm offer the hayride and tour of the haunted motel, along with a haunted cornfield maze. People all over the tri-state area come to see these spooky attractions and feel that rush of adrenaline.
The problem is, I did not feel one drop of adrenaline or goose bump when visiting “America’s most horrifying motel.” That was due to the fact that I would have had to wait in a line for tickets for over an hour and continue on waiting in another line just to get into the motel.
I had heard that the Bates Motel and all of the other attractions were amazing. I heard that I was going to be “scared out of my mind,” as one friend put it. But when I got there, it seemed like a joke.
The haunted corn maze was the first “horrifying” attraction we went to. Other then the fact the you are in complete and utter darkness for the first 20 feet or so, the second I got out into the actual maze, I encountered someone I knew from high school that was an actor and it was all over from there. In fact, I think she was only one of maybe seven people I came into contact with during the maze.
The rest consisted of mannequins and a man dressed as a bush that probably wanted to seem scary but no, I’m sorry. I was not scared of him. He acted as if he was just a man dressed as a bush and not someone who was getting paid to scared people.
I think that the only frightening part of the whole thing was the fact that the actors were allowed to touch us.
Thinking that the hayride would be at least a little better, we waited in line. We ended up having to wait in line for about an hour. I know that this is nothing compared to other nights though.
When I got on the hayride, I was scared. I had never been on a hayride before and I wasn’t sure what to expect. I wasn’t expecting anything like what I experienced. I think I might have jumped once during the 10 minute long ride. It was full of huge alien animatronics and for a person who is petrified of aliens, I wasn’t that scared. The same four people followed us the whole time.
After the hayride, we thought the line for the motel would have gone down but on the contrary, it got longer. We would have definitely gone through the haunted house hoping for the best. But based on the previous attractions, we knew not to expect that much. We figured it could get worse from there.
So, if you’re looking for a scare at Arasapha Farms, I hope you are prepared to pay $30 for a night of bad costumes, long lines, and lousy acting.
