Midnight Madness, a very popular event at Cabrini, is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 27 from 9 p.m. until 12 a.m. The festivities in the Dixon Center will feature the men’s and women’s basketball teams, the dance team and cheerleaders.

Jeffery Falaradeau, assistant director of athletics, hopes to see positive outcome from the student body and said that Midnight Madness is “a great way to bring the campus community together.”

Organized by the Athletic Department, Student Activities and Student Government Association, Midnight Madness is expected to have a similar schedule and menu as last year.

Falaradeau explained that finger foods such as chicken fingers, chicken wings and french fries will be served in the lobby of the Dixon Center. These ‘midnight munchies’ will be offered between 9 p.m. until 10 p.m. provided by the Dining Services.

To kick off the event, a student/faculty basketball game will begin at 10 p.m. Falaradeau is currently recruiting student participants to take on Cabrini staff members, such as admissions counselor Saleem Brown.

Brown said, “My all-star crew is promising victory this year, so we need some competitive athletes to beat.”

New to Midnight Madness this year is a hotdog eating contest, provided by Dining Services. It is scheduled to take place after the student/faculty game. The winner will be the contestant who can eat the most hotdogs in 10 minutes.

Falaradeau, who is very excited about the hotdog eating contest, is also looking for five contestants to compete in this competition. Anyone interested can also e-mail him at jf735@cabrini.edu. Each contestant will receive a free t-shirt for competing.

Other activities such as a dizzy bat, three-point, and hot shot competition will also take place at the event.

T-shirts and other prizes will be given out to random spectators throughout the night.

At about 11pm the Cabrini cheerleaders will take the floor. The 13-student squad has been preparing a 15 minute routine consisting of a dance, tumbling, stunting, jumps and a cheer. Senior, American Studies major Meg Eller, is excited for the event.

“The group of girls this year is a very hardworking and dedicated squad. Also, our stunting is on a more elite level so we hope to see a lot of people come out and support us,” said Eller.

Next up, will be the introduction of the men’s and women’s basketball teams, led by Master of Ceremonies, senior English and communication major, Adam Bowen.

After their introduction, both teams will play each other in a co-ed basketball game. Senior, accounting major and captain of the men’s basketball team, Randi Reid described the game as a “fun way to show our appreciation for the fans.”

Lastly, around 11:30pm the Cabrini dance team will show their moves in a 10 minute dance routine. The team has a new feel this year by performing a strictly hip-hop routine, as opposed to their usual jazz routine. The 22 members are also excited about their new costumes premiering for Midnight Madness.

Senior English and communication major and dance team member, Victoria Nicodemo, said the team has been working very hard to prepare for Midnight Madness and hopes for an abundant turnout.

The team is currently selling Midnight Madness t-shirts that are available for purchase through the team members for ten dollars.

Another big part of Midnight Madness is the SGA bleacher decorating contest. Women’s basketball player and SGA member, Brittany McLeod, also a sophomore English and communication major, said that SGA “is really trying to make Midnight Madness big this year by getting as many people involved as possible.”

Falaradeau’s goal for Midnight Madness is to bring the campus community together. He also urges students to “come out and support our teams because the student’s enthusiasm is what makes Midnight Madness great.”
