Seth FrechieGeorge Bernard Shaw, author and winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, once commented on the sharing of ideas, comparing thoughts and apples. The quotes reads: “If you have an apple and I have an apple and we each exchange these apples, then you and I will still each have one apple. But if you have an idea and I have an idea and we exchange these ideas, then each of us will have two ideas.”
Shaw’s philosophy on the sharing of ideas was put to good use on Wednesday, April 2, where three different editions of the Woodcrest were shared at Widener University for a Media Day celebrating the written word. The event consisted of students from Cabrini College, Delaware County Community College, Neumann College, Ursinus College, and Widener University and was an effort for the editors and advisers of their respective magazines to share ideas, poetry and prose.
Tables were spread out in Widener’s University Center for each college where magazines from the past and present were piled for editors and advisers to take and comb over. Cabrini, represented by editors Katie Reing, senior, and Ryan Mulloy, junior, and adviser Dr. Seth Frechie, was successful, receiving compliments and running out of copies of their older issues. “Clearly we have much to be proud of,”Frechie said.
The open microphone reading featured three readings from Cabrini. The short story selected was entitled “Second-Hand Relations,” a story about a student with too much on her plate. An added feature to the story came from puppet master Jim Henson. A song is included from a sketch in the Muppet Show, which was sung at every opportunity.
