My car show experience
I have liked classic cars for as long as I can remember, but I really started getting into them during my junior year of high school. My dad, brother and I started going to car shows around my area. I love looking at all of the classic cars from all different years dating all the way back to the 1920s.
My go-to cars are always ones from the 1960s and 1970s. As I would walk through the show I felt like I went back in time just by looking at all of these cars. Some car owners at shows would play music that would suit their car from the time period that it was made. I remember one guy at a car show that had a yellow deuce coupe 1932 Ford from the movie “American Graffiti” with California plates which was where the movie took place. When he comes to a show he would always play songs from 1962, which was the time period the movie took place.
My Dad’s car
During the summer two years ago my dad bought a red convertible 1967 Pontiac GTO with black leather seats. He
bought this car because his mom, my grandmother, used to have an aqua green GTO with white leather seats when he was young. My dad’s GTO is a powerful car with a 6.7-liter V8 engine with BF Goodrich racing tires. This car can still spin wheels while going 60 miles-per-hour. This car is a lot of fun to drive. We have entered his car into two car shows so far. My dad is always getting things done to his car like getting disc brakes, a new horn and raised the back end.
My Grandfather’s car
My grandfather has a dark green 1976 Cadillac Coupe DeVille with white lather seats. This car has style with old school white wall tires. His car is big and long with a white rag top. When you get behind the driver seat and put the car in drive it feels like you are floating on a cloud. The seats in this car feels like you are sitting on a couch. He is the original owner of this car and bought it in center city in Philadelphia back in 1976. The dealer ship isn’t there anymore. When I went in the car for the first time when I was a senior in high school it was like stepping in to the 70s. There was old coins in the car from the 1950s to the 1970s and 8-track tapes in the glove box. I was putting in old tapes like Melvin & the Blue Notes, The Tavares and a Saturday Night Fever soundtrack.
Classic cars are nothing like modern cars today. I feel that classic cars had more style to them. Cars now a days look similar almost alike and the car can be two totally different cars companies. If you have been around classic cars, often you can start to pick up on trends of style that car companies used. With most Chevy cars back in the day they used to always have three tail lights on the back of their cars.
Also, cars now a days are made out of aluminum, plastic and styrofoam, with robots putting cars together as well. Classic cars were mostly made out of metal, steel and chrome. Back in the early stages of vehicles putting together it was mostly humans on the assembly line welding car parts together so every classic car is made a little bit different.
Classic cars I think are really big; they have a huge following. People from all over attended shows and by going to these shows you meet people, make new friends and get tips on certain topics about taking care or repairing classic cars. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have anything against modern day cars, I think it is cool to see all of the cool technology that comes with cars today. I think it is interesting the compare classic cars to modern cars, but you have to respect the classics.
