“Marijuana was now my mistress and heroin was my wife,” Michael G, a recovering drug addict, said.

According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 21.5 million American adults (aged 12 and older) battled a substance use disorder in 2014.

Michael G is a recovering drug addict who tells his story about how not only how he was affected by his addiction but also his family.

When discussing the topic of drug addiction affecting families, Patrick Brown, a certified interventionist professional and licensed social worker, talked more deeply about addiction, saying, “There’s no blueprint for treating this.”

After having multiple relapses, Michael is now on the path to recovery, giving proof of possibility to others. Being able to talk to others has strengthened Michael to not only begin his path of recovery but also be a voice of encouragement and hope.
