One of the first classes I ever took in college required me to take Briggs’ 16 personalities test. I had taken quizzes on myself before but this was the most accurate and eye opening personality test I have ever taken. The website states Briggs’ theory by stating:
“Briggs was a teacher with an avid interest in personality typing…. Together with her daughter, Isabel Briggs Myers, they developed a convenient way to describe the order of each person’s Jungian preferences – this is how the four-letter acronyms were born. There were four possible pairs of personality traits:”
- Introversion (I) or Extraversion (E)
- Intuition (N) or Sensing (S)
- Thinking (T) or Feeling (F)
- Judging (J) or Perceiving (P)
The potential personality types are then broken down in this table:
Analysts | Confident Individualism | INTJ-A, INTP-A |
People Mastery | ENTJ-A, ENTP-A
Constant Improvement | INTJ-T, INTP-T
Social Engagement | ENTJ-T, ENTP-T
Diplomats | Confident Individualism | INFJ-A, INFP-A |
People Mastery | ENFJ-A, ENFP-A
Constant Improvement | INFJ-T, INFP-T
Social Engagement | ENFJ-T, ENFP-T
Sentinels | Confident Individualism | ISTJ-A, ISFJ-A |
People Mastery | ESTJ-A, ESFJ-A
Constant Improvement | ISTJ-T, ISFJ-T
Social Engagement | ESTJ-T, ESFJ-T
Explorers | Confident Individualism | ISTP-A, ISFP-A |
People Mastery | ESTP-A, ESFP-A
Constant Improvement | ISTP-T, ISFP-T
Social Engagement | ESTP-T, ESFP-T |
All of these with different combinations have made it possible for sixteen personality types. I retook the quiz and I was still an ENTP which is titled “The Debater.” It then laid out a freakishly accurate summary of my personality as well as how my personality lays in my friendships, relationships, career and parenthood. It confirmed that I put my relationships in the center of my life and take care of other things as they come. It was so fascinating to see how my personality could just lay out my entire life. Another thing I found interesting was that the site also matched me with famous ENTP’s like Mark Twain, Tom Hanks and Celine Dion (my queen). I asked a few Cabrini students to take this test to see how they felt about the test and what it had to say about them.
Sophomore friends Joe Berardi and Johnny Myers took the test together.
Myers was apprehensive at first, saying “I’m a very complex person so I just don’t see how this can capture everything.”
After both guys took the test, they were amused to discover that they had the same results. They both thought the description was accurate and Myers even agreed fully with his result because “I rely heavily on intuition and the results made that very clear.”
Not all students found the test as freakishly accurate as the rest of us.
Francesca DiGregorio took her test and was resulted with “The Adventurer.”
She said, “It was a lie to me but it made a few accurate points.”
