The many conflicts of golf; Women’s team looking to improve

For golfers, it’s all about the swing, the putts and the strokes. That’s all they are thinking about. They are thinking of ways to improve their game in any way possible.

Cabrini’s golfers don’t have a course or driving rang nearby. They have to drive 20 to 30 minutes to their home course.

Other Cabrini sports athletes are fortunate enough to have their field on campus.

Balancing

“I wish I could manage my time better with golf and school,” junior business administration major Nicky Marrollo said.

With the upcoming season that is unfortunately not going to happen due to the coronavirus, Cabrini’s women and men’s golf team had a very tight schedule. There were two weekends back to back for the Conference Championship and Atlantic East Championship.

With golf it could be an entire day event. Golf is alway unpredicatable with the time. With not knowing, it can be stressful on when you return back to campus.

Most players are very tired after playing a round of golf. The last thing they want to is do homework. They would much rather shower and go to bed but they have homework to do.

It’s important to not fall behind.

Student comes first with being a student-athlete.

Social life is also important to student-athletes. They don’t want to miss out on hanging with their friends. Sometimes student have serious FOMO (fear of missing out) and can get distrated and not focus.

There is always time for hanging with your friends but you wil not always be able to find tieme to hang play the sport you love.

There is no reason to stress over it, just find the balance in both.

The team

On the course, you are one but off the course you are a team.

During the fall season, the women’s team only had four women. They were lucky enough to find swimmer Marissa to complete the team.

To have a complete team you need five people. All you really need is four scores but an extra girl on the team is very helpful. If one player is having an off the day the extra player’s score could count.

Mentality

Golfer’s need to develop a strong inner game or mental toughness. You can see players that have “great talent”, but sometimes they can not meet up to their full potential.

In golf you have many decisions to make, thoughts ruining in your mind, imagining where the ball is going to

and so many different feelings while you are setting up your swing.

Having a strong metal game is important for all golfers.

Playing golf can drain you mentally. With just one bad shot it can affect the way you play all day.

“I have to realize that golf is just a game, not my life,” junior business administration major Nicky Marrollo said.
