On Wednesday, April 20 the Cabrini women’s lacrosse team came back from an eight-goal deficit only to lose by one goal in a 16-15 final score against Widener University. Senior attack Gabrielle Gorbey recorded a team-best five points in the game with four goals and one assist.

The Lady Cavs scored the game’s first two goals but were losing 6-5 at the end of the first half. However, Widner opened the second have on a 5-1 run and took advantage with a 10-6 score at the 21:49 mark. Sophomore Chrissy Pasquarillo, who posted four points with three scores, scored along with Gorbey before the Pride netted six goals in a row taking the lead to 16-8 with 14:46 left in the half.

Although some teams might have given up at this point, the Lady Cavs never did and went on an 7-0 run, almost forcing the game to go into overtime. Senior attack Jamie O’Hanlon, who was recently named to the CSAC Honor Roll along with men’s lacrosse senior Paul Skulski netted to goals during the run, including the game’s final goal. O’Hanlon taillied three points during the game with three goals.

Cabrini beat Widner in draw controls with a 17-15 advantage. Freshman attack Kelli Manopello who noted two points with two goals in the game, led the Cavaliers with five controls while Gorbey collected four. O-Hanlon and freshman attack Sarah Means each received a team-high three groundballs while frehman goalkeeper Janel Folkomer recorded six saves for the team in the defeat.

This is the third game for the Lady Cavs where they lost by just one goal including two of the games against CSAC opponents Gwynedd-Mercey and Neumann Unviveristy earlier in the month. The team is currently 5-2 in the conference and 5-8 overall and will begin the first round of playoffs on Saturday, April 30 to try and defend the CSAC championship they’ve won the past two years against Gwynedd Mercey.
