Is ‘CRU5H’ better than its predecessor ‘The Bean’?

Editor’s Note: The smoothies at CRU5H cost $6, not $7.

In the summer of 2019, Cabrini University renovated the first floor of Widener Center, where the former “Bean” was located into “a fast-casual grill,” now known as “CRU5H.”

“CRU5H” was supposed to be a better meal option than the prior “Bean” that was located there before, with more options to choose from, fresher food, healthier options.

On “CRU5H’s” opening day, the students got a taste for what was soon to come. Opening day wasn’t the smoothest it should’ve been. “CRU5H” ran out of many foods before the dinner rush had even started, which definitely gave students a sour taste in their mouths.

Since “CRU5H’s” opening, the reviews haven’t been too positive from students who have had the chance to eat there. Students have been complaining about things like the menu options, service, prices and staff.

Sarah Gudas, sophomore education major, said she prefers the old menus they use to have, like the mozzarella sticks and the wraps. Gudas was surprised by how big the menu was, until she found out that you can only order from certain menus at certain times, which doesn’t always match her schedule as a student-athlete.

“It’s too overpriced for the quality of food, and they don’t have many healthy options anymore,” said Gudas.

Gudas also does not like the fact that the workers sometimes seem moody and unfriendly. “I also don’t like how you have to wait until after you order your food to find out that some things are unavailable to purchase because of some excuse,” said Gudas.

Hannah Burke, sophomore exercise science, health promotions major expressed her displeasure with the new addition in Widener Center. Burke was very unhappy when she went to place her order for a strawberry refresher and realized they weren’t being sold anymore.

“Late night at “CRU5H” is terrible. I prefer the old late night at the café because it wasn’t as expensive and the food they made was better overall. Things are so expensive there like we’re using so much flex; it’s not even covered by our meal exchange anymore,” said Burke.

Burke went on to say that “CRU5H” is nice but not what she would’ve ever expected.

Catherine Mulligan, junior accounting major, had a lot to say about the new dining option. Mulligan was disappointed when she found out that they wouldn’t be including a salad bar. “Bring back the salad bar!” Mulligan said.

“Thanks to ‘CRU5H’ I’d rather starve than eat their food. The eggs are watery, the tacos fall apart, the avocado is frozen solid, the chicken tenders are so burnt that you cannot physically chew them, and a smoothie cost $7. The only thing edible they serve are the tots and the Starbucks coffee and muffins,” Mulligan said.
