In partnership with the Catholic Relief Services, students from both Villanova University and Cabrini came together to train and learn about how they could help others.
At the training day, which happened Saturday, Oct. 25 at Villanova the students work with CRS by starting a journey of global solidarity. The begin the day by sharing stories and telling what brought them there. They also talk about the integration Catholic Social Teaching and the work overseas. The students work with the CRS members to build skills and plan for the academic year. They plan what issues they would like to address and what events they would like to hold in order to promote global solidarity and a peaceful world.
Peggy Jean Craig, the relationship manager and university liaison for the Catholic Relief Services’ Northeast/Mid-Atlantic region, works with several universities and colleges throughout the regions. She is happy to be working with Cabrini.
“We have learned so much from Cabrini, its students, its faculty and its administrators,” Craig said. “CRS is a better agency, and the work we do is better because of Cabrini’s partnership.”
Craig says she is always inspired and impressed by the student leaders who participate in CRS.
As ambassadors, students learn how to make a difference in the world. The ambassadors at Cabrini are trained to raise awareness through campus programs. These are programs on key issues for global humanitarian work including fair trade, food security, migration, HIV/AIDS, peace-building, and microfinance.
Cabrini College made the decision to partner with CRS in 2005. It was the first college to do this, and now four other colleges have joined Cabrini, including Villanova University, University of Notre Dame, Santa Clara University and Seattle University. This partnership provides a strong tie between the students at these Catholic universities and struggling people in 100 nations. Cabrini chose to be a part of this because this partnership coincides with the global spirit of St. Frances Cabrini, and the commitment for an education of the heart.
