Everyone has somebody whom they can count on for anything, whom they look up to, whom they aspire to be like one day, for me that person was my Aunt Kathy. My Aunt Kathy has always been there, through good times and through bad. She had many gifts, talents, and characteristics for which she was well-loved. My aunt has always helped me live my life in a completely different way. The person in witch I am referring is my aunt Kathy. In March of 2009, my aunt lost her two-year battle with lung cancer.
In April of 2013, Kathy helped me make one of the best decisions of my life: choosing to transfer to Cabrini College. As soon as Kathy entered into the halls of heaven, I truly believe that she met with Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini, and asked her if Cabrini College was in fact the right fit for me. Even though I was contemplating attending a number of other colleges, Cabrini was the only one that I looked at, and is where I ended up. However, there were a number of “bumps” during this process. Each time that I would consider attending another college, I would turn to Kathy and ask her if I was heading in the right direction. She would answer, “Do not turn back, keep going forward.”
When I first entered the campus, I filled with mixed emotions. However, as I saw each part of the campus, I “fell in love with it.” Every person that I met and spoke with had nothing but wonderful things to say about Cabrini. In addition, each one of the faculty member that I had the opportunity to talk to said “Your are in good hands” Now that I am at Cabrini College, I feel as though everything has fallen into place.
Moving on campus, and away from home was a very life changing experience for me. At first, it was very difficult for me to develop friendships. Kathy was the one and only person that I turned to for support, and still is. Kathy helped me develop countless friendships with numerous people. Developing each one of these friendships has helped me to develop a second family. Kathy has helped each one them to recognize that I have a disability, and taught each of them what the proper is to provide assistance to me when I need it. She has helped me find friends that she knows will get along with, and that she can trust. Also, whenever anything happens to them, and I am not able to be with them, I know that I am able to rely on her to guide them through their struggles.
Kathy helps me remain calm whenever I am encountering any issue. Kathy ia very protective of me, and all of the great people that I have met. In addition, I feel as though she has trained, and is still training each of them in different ways.; this training helps them to provide me with assistance any time I get stuck.
I look back at the effect my aunt has had on me. Kathy was the type of person who never gave up in life. She always went above and beyond to make sure that whatever tasks she was performing got done right. Since the day we learned of Kathy’s passing, it has been very hard on the whole family, especially my uncle and my grandparents, but we are comforted by the fact that she is in a much better place, and that she is not suffering anymore. By dealing with this difficult situation, I have learned to never take anyone or anything for granted. I have also leaned to enjoy every minute of life, and spend as much of it with my family as possible. Kathy loved every single one of us in every possible way, and the same is true for all of us. As long as we are alive we will always remember her. She will always be in our hearts and will never, not even for a split-second will never be forgotten.
