Domestic abuse can be viewed in many different forms such as verbal, physical or mental. Domestic abuse can happen to anyone. However,  sometimes the problem is overlooked, or even worse, unreported.

There has been a topic flying around in the media about current NFL player Ray Rice. Many people may have never heard of this player until the day he hit his fiancée. I can go on record to say that I have personally never heard of him until that day.

This goes to show that media plays a big role in releasing and keeping the world up-to-date on important stories.

It is never acceptable for Ray Rice to abuse a woman, even closer to him, his wife to-be. It goes to question if this is the man that she really wants to marry.

However, no one really knows the real story and truth of what went on from the time they got on the elevator to the time they left except those individuals.

There is no way that I could even justify the situation. It breaks my heart to see young, black men living up to a stereotype that many people put out there.

After I read and heard about the incident,  I asked some of my friends and people around campus what they thought about the incident, as well as the approach the NFL took.

What do you think of the Ray Rice situation that’s going around?

Jessica Mastrando said, “I don’t agree with domestic violence at all. However, I think that taking his job away from him was a bit extreme.”

She said, “I heard about another domestic situation about a famous female soccer player being arrested for a domestic violence case ,but was still able to get more time to play and I just don’t understand it.”

Abusers should be able to go on with their lives just for the fact that things happen and people move on from them.

However, justice should be served if the person wants it.

You cannot force something that one does not want. You never really understand the full story of what really happened, you just get pieces and try to figure out if the accuser was wrong or the victim.

In all honesty, being as though I have witnessed domestic violence firsthand and also learned about it in a class, I know that it takes a toll on a person and can damage them for life. With that being said, no one should have to go through those types of tragedies male or female.

We should never pull the gender card because it can happen to anyone, as well as celebrities as we see today.
