Winter Break Starting Later Than Usual

Cabrini College is doing something different this year and that is starting winter break on Dec. 19, less than a week before Christmas. I feel this is because the school year started a little later than usual. For some students, it is not a big problem that winter break is starting later than usual.

“I don’t see a problem with it starting later , as long as we make up the extra time we miss with having the time off which is usually a month.” Shannon Fichter, junior criminology major, said.

Some students may not be so happy that winter break is starting later, but it is not too big of a deal for them.

“It’s not great but on the other hand, I still get a long break, and with finals week pushed back it’s easier for me to study,” Sophomore chemistry major Nick Erick said.

There is a point to that, where students have more time to study for finals which could be a good thing for them. It seems that most students do not mind starting break later than usual since Cabrini College is a school where most students are local and can go home whenever. For students who would have to travel, it can still give them time to catch up with family and friends before Christmas Day.

At Cabrini College, winter break is a month long. A month could be a good and bad thing when it comes to time off. It is enough time to meet up with friends from home, but in some cases that month ends up going faster than usual. Students including myself try to get as much done as possible, whether it is working and making money or doing stuff with family and friends. In some cases a month is not long enough for students to do all that. Students who work mostly make minimum wage and work 3-4 days a week, which does not really get them a whole lot of money within the month to use when they return. Some colleges like Penn State and Temple have longer breaks like instead of four weeks, they have six weeks. I feel Cabrini should be like Temple or Penn State and give us that long of a break. It would give us time to relax and able to do more stuff whether it is to spend time with family or friends who for those who travel far do not see until all of our breaks are.

Winter break is something every college student looks forward to. It is a good way to get studying and college work off of our minds for a good amount of time.
