War not related to 9/11

I was part of the protest and was not interviewed as part of the article, which I am fine with, but my reasons were different than those I was protesting with. Yes, I am against the war because I feel that there were ways around killing people we are “trying to save.”

I protested because I am sick of Cabrini students coming up to me and thinking that this war is about 9/11. I protested to show others that many are going to die because of Saddam, both solders and people who are at the wrong spot at the wrong time.

I have many friends that are over there fighting this war and I support them because this is what they want to do. It is their job. I recently was in contact with one of my friends and he is scared shitless. I wanted to protest to tell everyone that most of the people fighting for our freedom are 18-21 and that they will die while we sit here and pretend that nothing is happening.

Look at the girl they recently rescued. She was 19! She had two broken legs, a broken arm and a gun shot wound. I don’t think I could have been strong when I was that severely beaten and she was.

I am VERY upset that the writer of the story said that I was not supporting the troops. I feel that I can disapprove of the war and support the troops at the same time only because the men and women that are fighting are only following orders. I knew lying on the grass was not bringing anyone home, or that the war was going to stop.

I thought that lying on the grass and handing out information would bring attention and tell people about what is going on. I also felt that this was a perfect opportunity for the Loquitur to spend time explaining exactly why the war is happening especially with the journalist who came to speak to the college.

This is the point. We all need to know what Bush doing instead of assuming that this war is about something that it is not.

Dr. Hedtke and Dr. Girard are both on campus and I am sure they could give wonderful views about the war. Why hasn’t this been done?

I have written to many “college age” magazines and papers asking them to go into detail about why this war is taking place and I have not seen one article yet. I know I am asking a lot from a college paper but if I am watching what is going on and hearing about it through the people I love that are over there and I have ignorant people talking about a war they know nothing about, I try to spread knowledge.

Then I have the college news paper basically say that I was protesting a lost cause. It really upset me and angered me.

Solders are over there trying to set a country free of a horrible man and I am proud to say that my friends are helping to free a country. At the same time they are killing the innocent people they are trying to free.

Yes, freedom isn’t free, but why does it have to be that way?

Yes, Saddam is a horrible man and he needs to be taken out of power but why are we killing people instead of searching only for him. Everyone knows where Bush is. Why don’t we know where Saddam is?
