The Chip Kelly era has finally ended here in Philadelphia, but the question is can the new guy come in and clean up Chip’s mess? Doug Pederson, former Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator, is ready to step up and take on his first role as a head coach.
He could not be coming to a more flip flop spot than Philadelphia. Philadelphia with its fans can either love you and want to build statues of you, or come to your house and burn it down. As you saw before with Chip Kelly, it went from “in Chip we trust” to “Get the hell out.”
Doug Pederson seems up for the challenge with his recent success with Kansas City who made an early exit from the playoffs this year at the hands of Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.
Doug Pederson has yet to be a head coach but has some history with the Eagles as their former quarterback coach in 2011. He then followed the Eagles former head coach Andy Reid to the Chiefs and is happy to be reuniting with his former team. Not only did he serve on the coaching staff but he was on the roster as well in 1999 serving as Donovan McNabb’s back up.
In my opinion, this guy has some good experience with the Eagles back when they were really a threat in the league and if he can bring back some of that old classic Philadelphia football, I am sure the fans would love to have him.
That being said, I think that Philadelphia need to realize they are in rebuilding mode after Kelly’s plan to sell all of their past stars and bring in a whole bunch of new faces back fired. When you are in a rebuilding mode you need to be patient with your team, which Philly has never really been known for after watching the Flyers and Sixers the past decade.
I think that with the conference the Eagles are in, any year any one of the teams
could win and seal a spot in the playoffs, but still the Philadelphia fans need to be realistic with their team’s ability to win and have a little faith in the organization and people involved. All I have to say to Coach Pederson is good luck!
