The Eagles currently face defeat and the fans could not be more disappointed

It’s been a rocky road for Philadelphia Eagles fans this season. On paper, things don’t look so bad with the Eagles currently in 2nd place in the NFC with 3-4 win record just behind the Dallas Cowboy’s 4-3 records. Things don’t look as good on the field.

Plagued with injuries of key players including offensive lineman Jason Peters, and wide receiver DeSean Jackson, the Eagles offense is not performing as expected. In fact, they currently lead the league in dropped passes. On the defensive side, the Eagles have one of the worst ‘points scored against’ stats in the NFL (186 pts).

While they created excitement with their 34-27 win over the Green Bay Packers and their explosive 31-6 win over the New York Jets, the excitement did not last for long. Those wins were followed by a loss to the Minnesota Vikings (38-20) in a game many fans looked at as an indicator of their playoff potential. Faith is in short supply amongst fans.

Fans were on edge going into last Sunday night’s prime time game against their division rival, the Dallas Cowboys. Tied in the standings, both with a 3-3 record, the game would determine the NFC leader. Even with unsuccessful record fans still, hope that the Eagles will bounce back.

The Eagles showed a lackluster performance and were crushed losing to Dallas 37-10. The loss left many fans with low expectations given the tough schedule they face ahead including the 5-1 Buffalo Bills and 7-0 New England Patriots. Will luck be on the Eagles side? Only time will tell.

“We take too much time throwing the ball, I didn’t watch the last game but since we lost I assume that’s still a problem.” Mark Sowinski, junior accounting major, said. Sowinski also feels Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz could be doing a lot better than he is right now despite his recent injuries.

“We need to learn how to catch a ball.” Candace Berkheiser, senior special ed major, said.

Berkheiser feels that the Eagles are no longer able to catch a ball that is tossed by Carson Wentz. Berkhesier feels that we have no chance of having a successful season with the way the Eagles are currently playing. Berkhesier also believes that the most vital player to the Eagles team success is their tight end player, Zach Ertz.

“Their secondary needs a lot of help because they keep letting up long passes,” Patrick Bell, junior psychology major, said. “Their offensive is playing pretty well but their defense lets up too many points and that’s why they lose big games.”

Bell believes with a little help, the Eagles could have a successful season but only after they improve their defense. He also feels the Eagles defensive player Fletcher Cox plays a major roll in helping the Eagles succeed and if he can continue to play his best, then Eagles have a shot. Is he right?

The next game for the Eagles to play will be against the Buffalo Bills. In addition to having small odds of winning, there is little faith amongst their fans and the season rapidly finishing. However if there does exist a chance for a victory in this game, a conference title may not be too far out of reach.
