Food is a basic human right; everyone has the right to be free of hunger. Road of Insecurity: The Global Food Crisis takes an in-depth look at the global food crisis, which is affecting more than 900 million people across the world.

“Road of Insecurity: The Global Food Crisis” explores the current conditions of those living without food in the world and what is being done to address the problem.

It seeks to educate people on a global issue that has taken thousands of lives and left millions hungry, not only here in the United States but mainly in the developing world.

The documentary aims to explain why it is important to care about issues overseas and to fund programs that aid the developing world.

The concept for the documentary originated in a social justice course the three students participated in, Working for Global Justice.

As part of the course, we interviewed representatives of several national and international organizations involved in developing sustainable policies for food security.

We interviewed representatives of agencies like Bread for the World, the national organization to end hunger at home and abroad, and Catholic Relief Services, the international humanitarian agency of the American Catholic church.

Food insecurity is not only a lack of food due to cost, but also the lack of availability or access to food.

This documentary explores the current conditions of those living without food in the world and what is being done to address the problem. Listeners hear about cause of the global food crisis and the impact that hunger is having on people and their everyday lives.

First, Abiosseh Davis, project associate for the Global Women’s Project at the Center of Concern in Washington DC and Bruce White, Policy Advisor for Food Security and Hunger, Catholic Relief Services, explain the reasons behind the global food crisis, elements of the food crisis and that a major population of the world does not have any type of food security.

We talked with experts in that have worked around the world in food aid and hunger relief. and even stationed in countries like Kenya, Africa.

Road of Insecurity: The Global Food Crisis, takes a critical look at the United States government and what they are doing to solve global hunger and in which ways they can and need to improve on.

Finally we focus on different programs and organizations, which shed light on and give hope to those suffering from this global issue and prove that with necessary government support can put an end to this basic human right being violated.

Road of Insecurity: The Global Food Crisis, is our way of advocating and educating people on a global issue that has taken thousands of lives and left millions hungry, not only here in the United States but mainly in the developing world. This documentary aims to explain why it is important to care about issues overseas and why it is important to fund programs in the developing world.

This documentary from WYBF-FM has been selected as a Best of Festival winner in the 2010 Broadcast Education Association’s Festival of Media Arts competition for their audio documentary, “Road of Insecurity: The Global Food Crisis.” “Road of Insecurity: The Global Food Crisis” has also won an International Silver Davey Award, a Philadelphia College Air Award, and has been nominated for a College Broadcasters National Production Award.
