Men’s basketball loses in PAC semi-finals

The men’s basketball season came to an end on Thursday night, March 27, when the Alvernia Crusaders defeated the Cavaliers 67-63. Tim Maddox was Cabrini’s highest scorer of the night with 15 points and Brian Wood followed close behind, scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds.

The Crusaders held the lead for the entire game. However, in the final moments of the second half Cabrini came within two points, but could not top the Crusaders.

Cabrini forward Brandon Millwood said, “I think we just got out to a slow start. We worked hard at the end, but it was too late. We need to learn to play hard from the beginning.”

This was the Crusaders’ first win in six Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Tournament games over the Cavs.

This game was also an important one for the senior players on the team, not only to advance to the next round, but also because it would be the last game they would play in their college careers. Each senior player received a rose to give to their mothers and a signed basketball.

The Cavs were the PAC champions six years in a row from the 1992-93 season to 97-98 and then twice in a row again from 2000-2002.

Last year Cabrini made it to the sweet 16, their best performance in the team’s history.

Alvernia went on to win the PAC Championships over Neumann College 80-73 on March 1.
