Though they may not be having the best season so far this fall, the men’s soccer team is not giving up hope to turn this season around.

“It’s a little over halfway through [the season],” Rob Dallas, head coach for the men’s soccer team, said. “We’ve had a few ups and downs. I think we’ve let a few results get away from us.”

The men’s soccer team has won four games, lost six games and tied one game out of a total of 11 games so far this season. Though their season has had a rocky first half, both the coach and the soccer players are holding out hope that they can continue the rest of their season with triumph.

“I think it has been a successful one,” Zach Garcia, sophomore marketing major and center midfielder, said. “We’ve had some tough opponents, but we have conference play opening up.”

Though the soccer team still holds out hope for a come back this season, there are some weak spots they need to overcome if they want to live up to their hopes and expectations for the remainder of this fall season, such as not having a slow start for each game and being able to score more goals.

“I feel like we start games off pretty slow, which I think is a weakness,” Josh Cunningham, junior exercise science and health promotion major, said. Cunningham is a center back for the men’s soccer team. Cunningham continues to say how every player part of the soccer team hopes to change this weak spot by being more defensive on the field.

The team does plan to improve their season, especially for the upcoming conference play game, but no major changes will be made to the soccer team.

“The big thing is to approach it game by game and to make sure as we do so we reward the effort of guys, who are continuing to work hard, especially in the games,” Dallas said.

According to the head soccer coach, the men’s soccer team’s main focus right now is on the conference play game against Neumann University. Dallas wants to make sure every player is coming in with the right mentality and spends their energy following the team’s game plan for each opponent.

“It’s very easy to look back on things and say ‘I could’ve done this’ or ‘I wish I’ve done that,’” Dallas said. “The reality is that we live in a space where we let a few results get away from us.”

The men’s soccer team is looking at these upcoming conference play games as a new season, with a new start, which they hope will lead to more wins.
