The Cavalier’s extend their win streak to three while holding on to a 68-63 win over Marywood University Pacers.
Cavs struck first as Senior A.J. Williams scored with a layup off a fast break. Williams would lead the team in scoring finishing with 16 points
The lead changed hands a total of five times in the beginning of the first half.
With the first half coming to a close, the Pacers took a five point lead at 27-22, with just over two minutes left. But the Cavs finished the half with seven unanswered points. Sophomore Aaron Walton-Moss had five of those seven, including a layup to close the scoring for the half and give the Cavs a 29-27 lead. Walton-Moss finished the game with 13 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
The Pacers had no points in the paint in the first half while the Cavaliers had 12.
Cabrini continued their streak of unanswered points and increased their lead to 10 to start off the second half. The Pacers began a comeback as they brought the lead to within five with about 11 minutes left. The Cavaliers pressed on as they pulled away to a comfortable lead of 11, their largest lead of the game, with just over 8 minutes to go.
In the last minute of the game, the Pacers brought the game within 5. A layup by, Junior Fran Rafferty, extended the Cavs lead to seven with 17 seconds left.
Pacers answered right back bringing the game back to within five with eight seconds left and called a time out. In an attempt to tie the game up they tried a quick foul but the lead was too much to overcome with such little time left.
The Cavaliers dominated the paint throughout the game with 28 points total, compared to the Pacers 12. Utilizing their bench in the second half, the Cavs had 14 points off the bench in the second half. With nine different scorers, and only three players in double digits, the Cavs spread the ball around showing a full team effort.
Cavs improve to 10-4 overall and 6-1 in CSAC play. The Cavaliers will take their winning streak on the road as they take on Gwynedd-Mercy, to battle for first place in CSAC, Wednesday January, 16th at 8 p.m.
