Let It Snow!

Winter break for most Cabrini students entailed working to save up money for the spring semester. Some students, however, found time to do what winter weather allows them to do–go skiing and snowboarding.

Brooks Pickering, junior biology/pre-med major, hit the slopes in his native state of Maine. Pickering traveled to Bethel, Maine to a spot called Sunday River. He has been skiing since he was two years old, and had recently broken his leg in a freak sledding accident. This winter break was his first time back skiing after several months of recouperation. “I was super stoked. I couldn’t even sleep the night before,” Pickering said.

Chris Barron and roommate Dan Alivernini, freshmen business majors, met up at Camel Back in the Pocono’s over winter break. “The slopes weren’t too good because it hadn’t snowed in awhile and most of it was from the snow machines,” Barron said.

Some Cabrini students got involved with Cabrini’s ski club and traveled to Mount Tremblant, Canada. The total cost of the trip was $439, which included accommodations, lift ticket and transportation. Jaime Lewis, junior English/communications major, was one of the 18 students taking advantage of the trip to Canada. Lewis has been skiing since second grade and said, “The skiing was amazing and the conditions on the slopes were perfect every single day.” Mount Tremblant is a small resort/village that sits on the side of several ski slopes, allowing residents of the hotel to literally ski right off the slope to the back door of their room.

Other students decided to get away from winter weather and head south. Ryan Dunn, a freshman undeclared major, went to South Beach, Florida for part of his winter break. Dunn said, “I relaxed and enjoyed the bars, babes, and beaches. I lived like a rock star.”

Winter break also allowed many students to just relax and enjoy the break. Melina Moore, a sophomore elementary education major, said, “Being away from Cabrini College for a month I realized I did the same thing I did at school; eat, drink and sleep.”
