After being an important part of his life for several years, senior Ty Kostack, a midfielder, went into his senior year planning to give everything he can in his final season as a Cavalier. For Kostack lacrosse has always been an important part of his life.

“Lacrosse is so important for me because it’s been running in my bloodline for a while now,” Kostack said. “My dad was the first in the family to pick up the stick and he and my uncle really run with the game and have set the bar high for myself and my siblings.”

From the time Kostack picked up a stick when he was in 7th grade through his final year at Cabrini, Kostack never stopped working on improving as a player.

“Just surrounding myself with great teammates and great coaching, I continued to elevate my game, ” Kostack said. I never took anything for granted and I always wanted to keep getting better.”

Knowing it is his last season with the Cavaliers, Kostack planned to put everything into his last season. Especially after the injuries he has fought through in the past.

“I’m just going to give everything I’ve got every single game, every single practice,” Kostack said. “I’ll never take anything for granted.”

It didn’t take long for Kostack’s hard work to show in the first few games of the season, scoring seven goals and five assists in the first three games of the season. Kostack also scored his 100th career goal on Feb. 29, 2020 against the Dickinson College Red Devils, but Kostack was too locked in to the moment and the game to realize that he had just scored his 100th career goal with the Cavaliers.

“I actually had no idea I scored my 100th goal until after the game,” Kostack said. “Once my family said congrats on 100 goals I was confused, I didn’t even know I scored 100 goals, I was just so locked in to the moment.”

After winning the NCAA tournament and becoming national Division III lacrosse champions in 2019, the Cavaliers have a target on their back every game they play. However, Kostack is still confident that they can have another NCAA tournament run end in a victory for the Cavaliers.

“I think that we could do this again and really run with it this year.” Kostack said.

A major challenge for the Cavalier lacrosse each year is against Salisbury. In the 2019 season the Cavaliers fell to Salisbury 5-13 on March 27. Followed by defeating Salisbury in a close 16-13 game in the 2019 NCAA tournament. The Salisbury vs. Cabrini game is always a battle from beginning to end and the Cavaliers always look forward to playing against the Sea Gulls.

“They’re the best of the best, we’re the best of the best and it really shows who wants it more,” Kostack said. “We just have to out work everyone, if we can outwork everyone I think we can come out with a win every game.”

With the end of Kostack’s time as a Cavalier coming, he wants to leave everything on the field and show that he is a different kind of player.

“I’m a different player, I really take pride in what I do,” Kostack said. “I put a lot of time into my craft, if you can’t see it on the field then you’ll see it on the videos. There’s a lot of work and passion that goes into my game and my teammates’ games.”
