Energetic and entertaining Jillian Smith, or Jill, is one of the voices of WYBF FM, Cabrini’s radio station. She is more than a radio personality, but a hardworking and successful student all around.

Smith is a senior English and communication major. She has taken the role as web master for the radio station, which performs tasks including updating music charts, weekly events and photos, as well as creating new pages, logos, and sections on the website to make it better.

Not only is she web master but an on-air D.J. Smiths show is on Tuesday nights from 7 to 9 p.m. 6 Degrees is the name of her show, where she links artists together with six songs or less. Turn your radio to 89.1 FM to hear her show during her on-air time.

In the fall of 2007, Smith was one out of four finalists in the nation for her “Quiet Promo” in Collegiate Broadcasters Incorporated Production Awards and also a finalist for Philly AIR Award for Best March of Dimes public service announcement.

Aside from being strongly involved in the radio, Smith is involved in many other activities at Cabrini. She is a peer tutor, Catholic Relief Services Ambassador for food security, “Loqation,” a student ambassador, member of Society for Collegiate Journalists, Dean’s List Scholar, Cabrini College Honor Society and Delta Epsilon Sigma.

Smith has a strong passion for community service and outreach. She went to New Orleans over winter break in January 2008 with Habitat for Humanity to help build houses for those affected by Hurricane Katrina. She is also a strong advocate for HIV/AIDs in Africa.

How does she juggle all of these tasks on a daily basis? Smith claims to have very strong time management skills. After viewing her day planner, her days are full from morning to night with organized notes and schedules. She does not sleep much but is very focused and goal-oriented.

After graduation in spring of 2009, Smith wants to have a career in multimedia journalism. This career includes shooting and editing videos into two minute pieces, much like a short documentary about an important topic such as her passions for service. All of her experiences and opportunities at Cabrini have given her what she needs to be successful in the future.
