From Philadelphia to New York: My stage crew journey

When it comes to your dream or your passion, you do everything you can do achieve your dream. Stage Crew has always been one of my passions. I have been involved in theater since I was in the sixth grade.

In high school, I never knew what I wanted to do in life. I was always good at stage crew but I did not think that it was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life. It was not until one day when my sophomore teacher told me I should go to school for production, when I realized this is something that I might want to do.

I thought about it long and hard and I realized that it really was something I was meant to do. Every time I step foot on a stage I fall in love with theater and the behind the scenes aspects more and more. My face lights up anytime I talk about my future with stage crew.

My best friend always told me she could see me working on Broadway or on tour with a singer, doing sound. Everyone always says don’t listen to what other people say, but sometimes the things people say are things you are meant to hear.

If it was not for people telling me how good I was at stage crew, I do not think I ever would have pursued my dream. Each time I think about stepping on a stage in the big league like New York City, I get very excited. That is how I know it is something I am meant to be doing. My dream is to work on Broadway and live in New York.

The group of friends I have now has always supported me and my dream. They continue to support me and my goals every day even through the tough times. It is important to have a good head on your shoulders and people who are not afraid to keep it real with you and tell you the truth.

Sometimes we all get overwhelmed or sidetracked and we feel like we are never good enough to reach our full potential, but you keep pushing. Every time I lose focus of why I am doing what I am doing, I think of all the people who have never given up on me, even when I felt like I was giving up on myself.

The people who I have by my side now, I know will be by my side until the very end. No matter the circumstance or where I end up, I know I will always have people who will pick me up. I always had a very supportive family and friends.

Just like every other teenager out there, it is okay to hit roadblocks and not know what you want to do. Do not feel like you have to have everything figured out at a young age. Everything takes time. All the good and bad are arranged to come together for a good ending.

If you are struggling with what you want to do, maybe it is the thing you are most passionate about. Sometimes when it comes to finding things we are good at its harder to find on our own. Go after what you want and do not stop until you get there.
