Benedict XVI

Does anyone else feel that it is wrong to have a former Nazi as the newest Pope? Personally I feel that it is an outrage to allow a man with “Nazi” in his past to be the head of the Catholic Church.
He (the Pope) claims that his service to the Wehrmacht (German Army) was forced onto him, but just because something is “mandatory” doesn’t make it right. This same argument, if you recall, is frequently used on behalf Nazi officers, soldiers and those who ran the death camps: “We were just following orders.”
The Pope has said that he deserted the army in 1944, more likely then not he deserted the Wermacht for the same reasons many other German soldiers did near the end of the war: they were losing and, rather than being killed or captured by the Russians, they deserted and gave themselves up to one of the non-Communist Allied forces.

I have been in service to my country for almost two years now, and in 50 years, the last thing I want to see is a former member of al queda elected to the head of the Catholic church. It is just wrong, and the Catholic church should be ashamed of itself.
