Dr. King’s hopes brought to 2009

Barry Scott, creator and voice of "Barry Scott's Tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr." educated students, faculty and families about the dreams and aspirations of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., at the Mansion on Thursday, Feb. 5. Scott's tribute was aimed at educating younger generations about the violence that was in America in the '60s due to the segregation and inequalities inflicted on African-Americans.

Students gathered in Jazzman's on Friday, Nov. 7, and watched as contest winner Sarah Frazier and three other students competed before friends, peers and a professional comedic panel of judges in Cabrini's stand-up comedian competition Funny Fest.

Global warming at the Icebox, an exhibit of various artists dedicated to bringing attention to the world's global warming crisis, will be on display at the Crane Arts Building until Nov. 15. Located in Philadelphia, this exhibit drew attention from artists throughout the world.

Personal breast cancer struggles

At the age of two, my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. I don't remember much. Most of my memories from my mother's surgery and treatment stemmed from home movies and pictures. It was explained mommy was sick, but she was going to be just fine. And she was for 17 years.

First annual Asian Film Fest

"Short films are used as calling cards," Ian Fischer, winner of the best short film award at the first annual Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival, said. The festival started Thursday, Oct. 9 and concluded Sunday evening with a closing night party at the Asian Arts Initiative located at 1219 Vine St.

One of the head organizers, Meredith Eldow, 27, co-producer, was all smiles at the sight of the event.

"Yo Conshy tonight" has become a phrase I hear so often on Thursday and Saturday afternoons. Since day one at Cabrini, I've heard drunken tales and funny stories of nights out in Conshohocken. Conshy, as we all know and love has become home to some of Cabrini's most infamous parties.
