Lady Cavs down Immaculata, finish on top of division

The Cabrini women's basketball team clinched their division, earning a first round playoff bye after beating Immaculata University 64-48 on Thursday, Feb. 19. They are currently 21-4 at the end of their Colonial States Athletic Conference regular season schedule.

Chocolate festival delights taste buds

The International Club hosted the third annual chocolate festival in Founders Hall on Thursday, Feb. 12. Jennifer Gold, International Club advisor and Marta Skuza, president of the International Club, helped make this event possible. This year, 17 countries were represented with chocolates and international teas.

Dance team’s ‘Haunting’ earns spot in competition

The Cabrini Dance Team participated in their first dance festival at West Chester University on Saturday, Jan. 24. With the help of Dr. Michelle Filling, English professor and Cabrini's new Dance Team coach, the girls were able to submit a successful audition tape and made it in the highly competitive competition over many other schools in the Philadelphia area.

Lacrosse club offers second chances

It started out as a simple idea, a big "what if," a joke among friends. However, slowly but surely, the idea became reality. The men's lacrosse club has become a part of the National College Lacrosse League. The club was originally founded by juniors Ryan Kaysen and Tom Hayes earlier last year in order for their group of friends to continue playing the sport they love.

Cavalier Tip-off ignites new season

Basketball season is officially underway as the annual Cavalier Tip-off took place on Friday, Oct. 30. Students flocked to the Dixon Center decked out in Cabrini gear to bring in the 2008-09 basketball season. Both the cheerleading and dance team cheered at the front door while the crowd marched in.

O’Hora named PAC Coach of the Year

The head coach of Cabrini's cross country team was named Pennsylvania Athletic Conference coach of the year. Thomas O'Hora has been coaching at Cabrini for 25 years now. O'Hora grew up in Scranton, Pa. and went to Scranton High School. He graduated from LaSalle University, in Philadelphia, where he studied English and pre-law.

Grace Hall was full of entertainment on Friday, Nov. 16, where Cabrini students competed for the title of Mr. and Miss Cabrini. George Post and Christina Cimmino were chosen to be Mr. and Miss Cabrini of 2007. Jack Sparrow opened the show by performing magic tricks and reading the minds of people in the audience.

Carabello hopes to qualify for ECAC

Swimmer Andrea Carabello is pushing to make a comeback after missing the qualification for the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships last year by .25 second in the 50 freestyle. Carabello plans to train and work harder to guarantee herself a spot in the ECAC this year.

Cabrini College men's basketball left the season last year with a 5-20 record. "That wasn't Cabrini basketball," Saleem Brown, assistant basketball coach, said. With a new coach hired in July, new players and hard work, Cabrini hopes to make a better outcome for themselves.

Fair Trade unveils new coffee blends

In honor of Fair Trade month, Jazzman's and Sodoxho unveiled two new coffee blends: Costa Rica tarrazu and Ethiopia oromia cooperative. Fair Trade coffee is coffee grown by independent family farmers in poor countries. Fair Trade means that coffee companies in the United States and elsewhere are paying the farmers a fair living wage to grow the beans.

Campus supports Laurel House Project

A class project at Cabrini College is leading to various forms of involvement with Laurel House. Laurel House is the only domestic violence shelter and service in Montgomery County. Cabrini students are collecting old or unused cell phones and empty ink cartridges for Laurel House.

CRS ambassadors raise awareness

The Catholic Relief Service Ambassadors, a new program on campus, is beginning its plans to increase awareness of world issues on campus. The CRS Ambassadors have taken on the job of creating awareness campaigns of different world issues. The issues they work on include Fair Trade, HIV and AIDS, food insecurity, hunger and homelessness and migration.

Stop shopping, start saving

Becoming good at saving or budgeting your money can take tons of stress off your back. Personally, I am not one of the best students at saving money, but since I'm getting older I'd like to become more responsible with my money and stop being such a shopaholic.

Depression increases among college students

Depression can be characterized by the symptoms of sadness, anxiety, decreased energy and loss of interest in usual activities. Studies show that over the past five years there has been an increase in depression amongst college students. According to Psychology Today, "College counseling centers used to be the backwaters of the mental health care system, now they are the front line.

Saving money in college becomes easy

Saving money in college can be done by something as simple as making your own coffee or sharing books with a friend. Many students do not realize the small things you can do to help cut unnecessary expenses and save more money. Eating out regularly is one of the main problems that students face when trying to save their money.
