Study abroad: Cabrini in Spain

Imagine waking up in a foreign country, looking out the window and seeing the narrow streets of Granada. For breakfast, a jug of milk that has been left out since it's been purchased, now sits on the table next to a box of Cheerios. Class begins in 20 minutes and it takes 15 minutes to get to the university.

PAC to change its name

The Pennsylvania Athletic Conference is taking measures to change the name of the league to include all the colleges involved. The name PAC has graced the Division III athletic conference for over 10 years. The only problem is that not all the schools included in the conference are located in Pennsylvania.

Lower income families to go to Ivy league schools for free

Harvard and other elite universities have announced that families making less than $60,000 will go to Harvard for free. Families making up to $180,000 will pay no more than 10 percent for their income for tuition. Yale University, Harvard University and the University of Pennsylvania are a few of the private institutions out there that are taking a different approach to student loans.

Former Cabrini student guilty in stabbing

A former student of Cabrini College, Keith Singleton, 21, was convicted of attempted murder, aggravated assault and possession of a weapon of crime. The conviction is a result of a dispute between two Cabrini students in April 2006 that ended with a stabbing.

Global Solidarity Network hosts first international teleconference on campus

Catholic Relief Service, through its Global Solidarity Network, hosted the first international teleconference Cabrini College has participated in on Thursday, Nov. 8. College students from around the United States, including Cabrini students, listened to Rick Jones, a representative from CRS on location in his office in El Salvador, and had the opportunity to ask questions about the ongoing debate of migration.

Playwright shares experiences with cast/crew

The theater program at Cabrini College hosted the playwright of the play recently performed at the college, "The Laramie Project." The playwright, Leigh Fondakowski, has visited many college campuses before, but she had only witnessed one performance by another school.

This semester, Cabrini's theater department is prepared to take audiences away to a warmer setting for free. The cast and crew will present "Once On This Island" on March 26-29 and April 3-6.

Rough economy hurts all

My mother just lost her job. For me she is now the face of those unemployment numbers we hear every few weeks. The United States Bureau of Labor has reported that in February 2009, the unemployment rate had reached an alarming 8.1 percent nationally. Ten years ago when my mom started working at a construction company as an accounting clerk, the unemployment rate was 4.

National Women’s History Project produces ‘Women Taking the Lead to Save Our Planet’

With such a rich history they have been awarded the whole month of March as "Women's History Month." Facebook users win battle over networks’ legal terms

Recently Facebook fought and lost a battle to consumers about jargon they used in their new legal terms of use. It was found in the terms of use that the Web site is allowed to keep users' content and licenses, even if the account is terminated. After a barrage of complaints, Mark Zuckerberg, chief executive, has agreed to allow Facebook users to have an active say in the revision of the legal terms.

Teledrama comes alive

Cabrini College's theatre will open its doors for the fall production of "12 Angry Jurors" Thursday, Nov. 6. "12 Angry Jurors" was written by Reginald Rose in 1957 and portrays 12 angry jurors who are placed in a tiny conference room where they have to decide the fate of a minor's life.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Oct. 16, 2008 is National Think Pink Day to raise awareness for breast cancer. Since the '90s, the incidence of breast cancer has increased. Fewer women, however, have died due to the preventative measures people can take. October is breast cancer awareness month.

Multicultural sorority opens new chapter

Five of Cabrini College's sophomores are hoping to change the stereotype associated with the word "sorority." Delta Xi Phi, a multicultural sorority, is under a one-year trial period and is now accepting pledges for Cabrini's chapter of the organization.
