Cabrini College announced on Thursday, Nov. 10 that there will be a 12.5% reduction in tuition and fees, effective fall 2012 through May 2015.
The college will be reducing undergraduate tuition and fees from $33,176 to $29,000 for the 2012-13 academic year and will be maintaining merit scholarship awards at current levels for returning students.
Below is the official announcement from President George and the chair of the college’s Board of Trustees:
————————————————————————————————————————–
To the Classes of 2013, 2014 and 2015,
We want to share news of great importance to you and your families.
Recognizing that the cost of higher education is spiraling out of control and that many families – around the nation and here at Cabrini – are struggling to afford college, we felt it imperative to respond to the economic environment and to what we are hearing from you about the cost of a college education.
The Board of Trustees of Cabrini College has authorized a 12.5% reduction in tuition and fees, effective fall 2012, and other measures to ensure that you and your family can plan for college costs through graduation. This plan for affordability includes:
- Reducing undergraduate tuition and fees from $33,176 to $29,000 for the 2012-13 academic year
- Keeping tuition and fees below $30,000 through May 2015
- Working with our neediest students to keep Cabrini affordable
- Maintaining merit scholarship awards at current levels for returning student
This last point includes a significant benefit for returning students. The College will maintain merit scholarship awards at current levels for qualified students. While a handful of other colleges have reduced tuition and fees in recent years, Cabrini College is the only institution to do so without reducing the dollar amount of these awards for returning students.
In announcing this bold move, we want to emphasize that Cabrini College is financially strong and that you will continue to enjoy the same extraordinary programs and the same extraordinary faculty. This is a tremendous opportunity to serve the College’s social justice mission
Here is information to help you understand how this change affects you and your family:
- Most important is that you complete and submit the FAFSA for 2012-13, available after January 1, 2012 at www.fafsa.gov.
- The Financial Aid Office recommends that to ensure accuracy families complete the FAFSA by February 29, 2012 using income figures for 2011.
- Financial award letters for fall 2012 will be issued in March 2012, reflecting the reduction in tuition.
- Contact the Cavalier Express Center in Grace Hall (610-902-8188, cavalierexpress@cabrini.edu) with your questions or concerns.
In closing, we want to emphasize that the Board of Trustees and all of us at Cabrini College believe strongly that this is the right thing to do – for students and for the College as a whole as we seek to live our mission of providing an Education of the Heart.
Sincerely,
Marie A. George, Ph.D.
President

Wow, first of all, what is Cabrini doing to be charging $30,000 (or more) in tuition per year in the first place?! It’s a good school, don’t get me wrong, but there is no way that a 4 year degree from that place is worth $120,000 even if it was plated in gold. And now, they want everyone to cheer that they’re dropping the tuition a whole $4K for a year? Oh, hoorah, hoorah. Just throw some crumbs about to the hungry masses and call yourself a hero.Back in the day, Cabrini wasn’t like this. They offered a good education at a reasonable price. Then, somewhere along the line, they got as greedy as the rest. I am ashamed of what this school has become and that is why they will never see a dime donated from me.Seriously, kids. Save yourself the headaches and a lifetime of debt and enroll in a low-cost trade school until this education bubble has burst. Because it will. It’s only a matter of time. Then, colleges will have to become competitively priced again.
