State legislators call for more education funding in Pa. budget

Untapped resource could meet U.S. energy needs for 20 years

For the past century, the natural gas located thousands of feet below the ground in the Marcellus Shale formation has laid underneath the state of Pa. untapped. It has the potential to bring a natural gas “gold rush” according to the Pennsylvania Budget and Policy Center but has not drilled because technology was not advanced enough to reach it.
