Almost every college student complains about their meal situation. Either they eat off of McDonalds’ dollar menu four times a week, Ramen noodles for breakfast, lunch and dinner, or they eat the food provided by their school’s cafeteria. However, here at Cabrini, a common expression heard is, “I pay all this money to go here, the least they can do is give me a good meal.” The company that feeds Cabrini’s students is Sodexo. Students often complain about the food preparation and employees who work for Sodexo, but know little about what Sodexo is actually doing behind the scenes.

Sodexo provides jobs to students on campus who have work study. Some of Cabrini’s own students work in our cafeteria here on campus. Sodexo awards its employees vouchers, cards and cell phones. They also give their employees that have a far commute a mobility passes, which are transportation benefits and they are also offered a meal pass.

Sodexo uses an Eco pass which allows them to purchase Eco-friendly foods and products.

“As a vegetarian and animal lover, a company that makes such an effort to protect the environment by using Eco-friendly products makes me happy that maybe more companies will follow their message,” sophomore, Alex Swallow, said.

Sodexo supplies thought and money into each employee. The reason they do this is to make the employees want to go to work, and it makes the company more attractive to businesses and marketers when they read about all the benefits Sodexo supplies.

Sodexo’s claim to fame however has been for the past six years, they have been voted in the top five most diverse company in the U.S. last year they were voted number two.

Sodexo prides itself on diversity. CEO, George Chavel, said, “Diversity and Inclusion is key to our success at Sodexo.”

Females executives have risen 26 % and African American, Latino and Native American have risen 32 % since 2007. The reason for this diversity is simple seeing in to the future. A company is more alluring to all genders and races when it is more diverse.

As for Cabrini, Sodexo goes along with our diverse nature. Cabrini’s campus is now almost 50-50 when it comes to African American to White students. Cabrini College is trying to become a more diverse school, not only by accepting more diverse students, but by hiring a diverse company to prepare food for the school, as well.

It just shows how committed and how much effort Cabrini is putting into their mission of diversity,” sophomore accounting major, Sara Devita, said. The future is supplying a more diverse world to the next generation and Sodexo is in line with what is to come.
