The Lady Cavs have been dominating opponents all season. It shows in their lengthy winning streak. But there is dominance and then there is the dominance they showed on Wednesday, Feb. 13.

The Lady Cavs controlled play for 40 minutes in an 84-18 rout over Notre Dame of Maryland University.

The win extended the Lady Cavs winning streak to 16 games, 15-0 in CSAC play and 21-3 overall on the season.

This was also the largest margin of victory between the Lady Cavs and an opposing team since the 2000-01 season. The old record was a 55-point margin between the teams. The 66-point margin set the new record.

The coaches decided to give everyone a chance on the court as the margin increased. Everyone on the team had at least two points, and 12 out of the 13 had at least to rebounds so it was truly a total team effort.

Brittany Sandone led the victory with a team-high 11 points. Following up was Meghan Martin and Amber Keys both with 10 points for the night. Christine Ingargiola grabbed a career-high of 10 rebounds for the night. Maggie McElroy and Maura O’Connell both posted career-highs with nine points. Out of the 33 turnovers forced by the Lady Cavs, the offense produced 50 points.

It was also Senior Night for two of the Lady Cavs. The duo of Laura Caron and Melissa Kudzmas combined for 173 game appearances, 740 points, 591 rebounds and 244 assists.

The game was starting off a little bit slow with both teams not scoring a single point in the first three minutes of gameplay in the first half. But after Annie Rivituso opened up with a free throw, McElroy made three back-to-back threes. With nine minutes left to play in the first half, Dana Peterson made a layup to extend the score to 26-5.

For nine minutes of gameplay, the defense kept the Gators down to two points. At the end of the first half the Cavaliers kept the Gators under ten points with a score of 50-7 which shows the outstanding level of defense the Lady Cavs brought to the court.

The team has one game remaining on the schedule. They host Marywood in a game rescheduled from last week before waiting for an opponent for the CSAC semi-final on Wednesday, Feb. 20. The regular-season finale is on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 1 p.m.
