HoCo2k15 is still a necessary pastime

Homecoming is an event that has been going on in high schools and colleges for many years and is a tradition that should be kept but enhanced for the digital generation.

If you have Snapchat, you have probably seen videos and pictures with the abbreviation “HoCo,” which is short for homecoming.

During homecoming, students at Cabrini can participate in different activities, such as the homecoming parade and the crowning of Mr. and Miss Cabrini.

The only thing Cabrini is missing, and the thing most homecomings are known for, is the homecoming football game and a homecoming dance, or just a homecoming party.

Although Cabrini is different in that we do not yet have a football team, there should still be an event during homecoming weekend that the whole school, commuters and residents both, would be excited about attending.

Sara Smith, sophomore political science and history major, said, “I would take the biggest sport and make a big day out of it.”

On Friday, Oct. 16, Cabrini College hosted four homecoming events, two of which were free. The free events were the ice cream social and the family movie: “Minions.”

Cabrini College does a lot of things during the week to prepare for homecoming weekend. They host a color run and many other events during homecoming week.

It might just be the most packed week of the semester and all of the activities are very enjoyable.

Students at Cabrini had some ideas of how the school can make homecoming week a more fun and appealing week for students who attend the college.

Victoria Marchiani, sophomore pre-k and special education major, said, “Have every sports game home that weekend.” Marchiani continues to say, “I think it is [necessary for Cabrini to have a homecoming weekend] because it pumps everyone up.”

Marchiani is a member of one of the sports teams here on campus, but the game that she will be attending this weekend is an away game.

Some people, when they think about homecoming, automatically think football.

Vanessa Lawrence- Fulton, sophomore international business major, said, “Homecoming to me is supposed to be [a celebration of the] football [team].”

Most people agree that Cabrini needs to do a better job when it comes to advertising. It is hard to get the most school spirit during homecoming weekend when most of the school does not take part in homecoming.

“Advertise it more and make it more fun,” is one of the most common phases said among students at Cabrini about homecoming.

While Cabrini College’s HoCo may be underrated, homecoming in general is far from overrated and is a tradition that has the potential to either stay great or get even better. Cabrini should take homecoming and run with it.
