Every director wants the response the fall play “You Can’t Take it With You,” received over its three-weekend-run.
“I just enjoyed the whole show,” sophomore audience member, Danielle Kickner said. “I couldn’t pick out a favorite scene.”
The play directed by Cabrini alumna, Kait Finegan, put on seven productions. Cabrini took a chance and tried something new for this production.
Because tickets will go so quickly, they had a theatre box office. This meant that the tickets were on sale ahead of time for purchasing. This really boosted ticket sales. Every production sold out.
The cast really worked hard to create a believable storyline. The audience audibly enjoyed the performance and could tell the cast was having equally just as great of a time.
Sam Murray, who played the character of Penny, really felt a connection with her castmates.
“I love that the cast became so close,” Murray said. Getting to know and work with such talented individuals and getting directed by Kait, a Cabrini theatre alum, was a dream come true.”
“You Can’t Take it With You” is not a typical small production that Cabrini would put on. It won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1937.
“This was a challenging production,” Murray said. “It was hard to differentiate the way my character Penny would react to something and how I would react to something.”
There were 19 students involved in the production.
“Every person portraying their character was a perfect fit,” Kickner said.
Ultimately, the audience seemed to love the show and its consistently sold-out performances speaks volumes of the cast, crew, directors and producers.
The theater department will be putting on a spring musical, “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,” by Frank Loesser. This is a story of a young, hungry man who works as a window washer but wants more in life.
