Cavalier Dance Company continues to progress

“We are like a big happy family, “Jessica Austin said. Cavalier Dance Company has taken on active roles on campus this year. Ever since recreating the club and its image, it has brought a lot of students together and forming some of the coolest friendships ever.

The Cavalier Dance Company used to be known as Cabrini College Contemporary Dance Company and like every company starting from the bottom has suffered tremendous setbacks. A lot credit can be given to dancers like Melissa Welsh and Alicia Gould because they took on the responsibilities of helping reinvent and continue the club. “The club was formerly handled by our beloved teacher who taught ballet and modern dance classes, but sadly she had to leave Cabrini,” Samantha Jacobs said.

The team in the past has lost a few of its members to injuries and as a result this has caused them in the past to lose a lot of momentum. Even though they had a tough year and were struggling because they lacked guidance and a sense of direction, they never gave up. To them tit was not just a dance company, it had become a part of their lives and they hope to spread the name so everyone can hear and know what the club is all about.

The team is made up of captains Melissa Welsh and Lauren Hight, Jessica Paradysz, Jessica Austin, and Samantha Jacobs. Cavalier Dance Company performs at every open mic night event. They have a variety of dance routines and are opened to offering hip-hop, jazz, lyrical and ballet to anyone who is interested. This is an exciting group to be in and the team hopes to gain more members as time goes on and leave a lasting impression at Cabrini. “The goal of the club is to encourage dancing of any form,” Samantha Jacobs said. “We hope this becomes a lot easier for future students who wish to join the club.”

Dancing is a way one can relax and be free. Cavalier Dance Company encourages all types of dance at recitals so their dancers can be comfortable and feel confident in themselves. The dance company is much better now and they are hoping to gain more exposure next semester when they host their second meeting next semester. The two captains Lauren Hight and Melissa Welsh are open to recruiting people who are interested in the club.
