The Cabrini softball team’s winning streak continues as they won their sixth game of the season 11-2 and 3-1 over Baptist Bible College on April 22nd.  This improves the team’s winning streak to 13-5 in the Colonial State Athletic Conference and 18-5 overall. The team’s 18 victories is the most for them since their 2010 campaign.

The team’s defense was very good as they built an early lead by scoring some pair of runs in the opener on the top of their first inning. Their lead was cut short as freshman Amber Dietrich and Lindsay Savar singled to open the bottom of the first inning, before sophomore Kaitlyn Cooper hit a pitch over the left center fence for a three-run homer. This gives her a fifth round tripper of the season.

The 3-2 lead was enough for freshman hurler Taylor Gallagher secured three hits and struck out four defenders over the games final four innings. The Blue and White team kept hitting the plate, adding an unearned run in the second. The team took advantage of a mistake by Baptist Bible in the third which helped them build their lead. Dietrich’s RBI single through the left side scored fellow rookie Natalie Giannascoli before Savar clubbed her second home run of the year, a three run shot to the left field.

The Cavaliers kept taking advantage of its opportunities in the bottom of the fourth inning. Sophomore Stacie Roller reached on an infield single and advanced to the third as Mack reached on a defender’s error. Roller scored on a wild pitch before Mack scored on Dietrich’s single to left center.  Cooper added two more RBI to her afternoon with a double to left center, scoring Dietrich and freshman Kaitlyn Melahn. The Cavalier’s top three hitters in the line-up were Dietrich, Savar and Cooper who combined to go 7-10 with nine RBI and seven runs scored.

The Cavaliers turned to the right arm of freshman Kiley Sharp in the nightcap and the rookie delivered. Sharp scattered eight this, allowing one run with three strike outs for her sixth win of the year. Cabrini got on the board in the bottom of the second inning as sophomore Lea Enoch’s single through the right side scored Gallagher. Baptist Bible evened the score at 1-1 in the top of the fourth but the Blue and White regained the lead in the bottom of the frame.

Melahn’s single through the left side and plated junior Steph Diegel. This led to Melahn taking home third on a wild pitch for a 3-1 lead. The Defenders threatened in both the fifth and sixth inning but outfield assists by Dietrich and Mack who ended the threats.

The Cavalier team will return to action on Friday as they welcome Notre Dame of Maryland University to Cabrini field. This first pitch of the CSAC doubleheader is scheduled for 3 p.m.
