The Cavaliers and their program on the rise managed to compete with another ranked opponent for a solid 30 minutes before finally falling victim to the difficult road to the championship, dropping their Elite 8 game against No. 2 Amherst College by a score of 101-82 on Friday, March 22, at the Salem Civic Center in Salem, Va.

Greg Lewis teed up a three from the corner with under five seconds left. But the shot rattled off the iron and floated into the waiting hands of DeLeon Floyd, finishing off an 80-78 win for the Cavaliers over No. 16 Hampden-Sydney College in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
